Legal Services for residents, including Toronto tenants:

To be eligible for Legal Aid, through Legal Aid Ontario's eligibility guidelines, check with them to verify if you qualify both based upon income and the type of case. Typically, from an income standpoint, as of April 1, 2015, as a single person your income must be lower than $20,225 annually; as a family of two, lower than $30,337; a family of three total income below $34,832; a family of four below $43,573; and for a family of 5 or more have a total family income befow $48,315.

Toronto community legal aid clinics, clinics do not handle criminal defense cases, which are covered by Legal Aid; You must find a lawyer who accepts payment from Legal Aid Ontario to take the case. Legal Aid Ontario does keep lists available to the public in their offices of Toronto lawyers who do accept legal aid payment. Click the following for information on criminal charges against you.

Legal Aid Ontario clinics, typically (depending on the clinic) take cases related to residential landlord-tenant disputes like evictions, labour law and employment cases such as wrongful dismissal, workplace safey and not paying wages owed, Employment Insurance, Ontario Works, the Ontario Disability Support Program, Canada Pension Plan, Old Age Security, immigration law, and family law.
